I’ve never watched it, despite being a fan of the horror genre. However, the other day I saw that the first 5 seasons are on Amazon Prime so I decided to give it a shot. I made it 15 minutes into the first episode.

Maybe I’ve gotten spoiled by some of the great TV we’ve seen over the past few years, but it seemed like junk to me. Bad acting. Cliched, self-important cinematography. Shallow, disjointed dialogue.

Does it get better? Should I bother giving it any more time?

I’ve watched all but the last episode of the first season. It just fell to the back of the list of shows to watch. We have to be in the mood for a show like that so it’s not a high priority

The first season is the best season. Season two is pretty good but it goes downhill quickly after that.

The first season is definitely my least favorite. However, it’s not one of those shows where you can get the idea in the first episode or even the first 3. For instance I hated the current season until episode 6, and another oppo loved it until that same episode.

I’m a skeptic and not a fan of the horror genre, but I have been able to get into most of the seasons of American Horror Story. Since each season is a different story, I’d say that you’re safe to skip to season 2 (my fav). They make references to other seasons, but nothing big.

Seasons 1 and 3 are the best, 2 isn’t bad. I haven’t watched 4, and I’m working on 5 now. None of them connect, so you can watch them in whatever order.

The current season is fun as hell.

Family wanted to watch it so I gave it like three episodes into the first season. After those episodes I hated all the characters, and had to figure out if I wanted to invest any more time to see if they got better died hideously enough to validate hate-watching the rest of the season. Opted not to. Family are still watching it without me. Still haven’t regretted the decision.

Not really a fan of anything Ryan Murphy has created, tbh.

I watched the first two seasons and part of the third. I stopped watching once I realized that the rape of one of the main female characters in each season was a beloved plot point by the show’s creators.

I’m seriously fucking done with rape as a plot device to advance a woman’s “journey” in a dramatic piece. If you pay even the slightest attention, you’ll see just how sickeningly often rape is used in our storytelling on the small and silver screen both. We’re more than the parts of our bodies and psyches that can be violated.

Yeah, seems like we could probably get on without that.

Note that I haven’t seen either of them myself, but I have friends who complained about not liking American Horror Story, but really quite enjoyed Penny Dreadful.

I watched all of “Freakshow” and loved it. I tried to get into “Coven” and “Hotel” and they didn’t grab me quite like Freakshow did.

First 2 seasons were my favorite, Season 2 is great imo. They are all decent, something different to watch.
